Artist and researcher Angeles Muñoz Civantos studied Fine Arts in Granada and Florence (Italy), specializing with a Master’s degree in Drawing (2011). She combines her artistic practice with research projects such as The Qubbet El-Hawa Archaeology Project (Egypt) and, more recently, with researchers at Horizon Digital Economy Research developing innovative technologies around the structuring of interpretations of artefacts in museums collections.
Angeles has collaborated with researchers from the School of Astronomy and Particle Physics of the University of Nottingham and University of Hertfordshire (Bayfordbury Observatory), exploring the relationships between science and art, by interpreting some of the most relevant plots and graphs in the history of Astronomy and presenting the results as artworks in two exhibitions.
Currently, Angeles works on a part-time basis at the New Art Exchange gallery in Nottingham.
“My interest resides in the translation of scientific concepts into art. Traditionally, Science and Art are viewed as dichotomous activities. I believe though that these fields can converge; Art and Science are different ways of creativity, and therefore, we can say that Art and Science are in fact complementary.”
This is the statement made by Angeles about her art. She will have two pieces on display at the WCCA 2014 Art Exhibit.
Angeles describes “AGN” as “…an artistic translation of the unification by viewing angle of the AGN.”
“String Theory” is “…an artistic interpretation of the one-dimensional elementary particles proposed by String Theorists.”
