A resident of Kent, Sophie Sabbage is the author of The Cancer Whisperer, an international bestseller that has been published on both sides of the Atlantic since 2016 and translated into nine languages. She had worked in the field of psychology and personal development for twenty-five years before being diagnosed with incurable lung cancer in October 2014, when her daughter was just four years old. Still living with the disease, she is now a full-time author and speaker who has received considerable media attention for challenging the prevailing perception that cancer is a “battle” and spends much of her time helping cancer patients have a predominantly transformative, rather than terrifying, experience.
Sophie will be talking about:
Creative Writing as a Healing Force and Paradigm Shifter in the Cancer Community
“I have cancer. Cancer does not have me.”
Sophie will share how writing about her experience, first in a blog and then in her book, helped her find her best self when the worst happened. Refusing to be a victim of her situation while confronting profound grief and terror, she wrote herself back to life. She will also talk about how she wrote her book in six weeks, initially self-published it and then watched it take flight because it met a deep need in the cancer community. Having voiced what thousands of patients experience, but couldn’t articulate (or so they tell her), she became a voice for those who wanted to take from cancer more than it could ever take from them – whatever the outcome.
