KArtsCon2023: Beth James – Benefits of Visual and Performing Arts Discussion

Beth James (she/her) is Artistic Director / CEO of Square Pegs Arts, an award-winning Charity that has delivered theatre, music and arts based projects for learning disabled and neurodiverse young people in Kent and Medway since 2005. Their programme of work includes singing & songwriting projects, weekly drama groups, accessible film screenings, dramatherapy programme and a professional Theatre Company. They tackle isolation, improve wellbeing, and promote respect, awareness and inclusion of learning disabled and neurodiverse people. They also co-lead Kent & Medway’s Disability/Inclusive Arts Network.

Beth has also worked in various strategic roles in public and charity sectors, in event management, in community arts and as a performer, director and theatre practitioner. Her passion is promoting equity and access within the Arts and in the wider community, and in 2020 Beth was recognised by the National Lottery as one of 13 individuals in the UK who significantly impacted people’s lives through the Arts during the Covid19 pandemic.

A panel of creatives will discuss issues around the benefits of the visual and performing arts.
