Simmone Campbell, who goes by the pseudonym of ‘Mona Campbell’, is an artist based in south London. Mona graduated from Kingston School of Art with a first-class honours in 2019 and has collaborated with with various artists at TinType Gallery and has worked with Bill Leslie, Leap Then Look, Jo Addison and Natasha Kidd at Tate Modern. She was also commissioned by Leap Then Look, to create a carefully curated and easily accessible document that detailed resources of black art to be published within schools.

Mona was also a part of the collective, A Particular Reality from 2018-2020 which was a collaboration between Goldsmiths University and Kingston University which was pioneered by Michelle Williams Gamaker and Jo Addison in effort to center BIPOC university students, teachers and alumni about their experience in the industry, institution and conversations to decolonise the arts. In more recent projects, Mona was and is currently being commissioned by Yishebah Baht Gavriel to illustrate the Clever Chrissie and The Mango Stories children’s book and is currently in the process of writing and illustrating her comic book series.

Conditions of the Heart

This presentation will focus on the conditions of the heart in relation to relationships, the dynamics of love, the complexities of emotion and the imperfections of the heart. I will also be demonstrating the artistic process, concept art and also showing several animatics of what I hope to accomplish.  The animatics will be showing how people can experience love the same way but due to different circumstances the love just might not be enough to keep them together and they have to remove themselves. This presentation is accompanied by two rendered digital images.
